Using a Kanji dictionary
In Japan, students learn how to use a kanji dictionary in the third grade.
There are three different ways to look up kanji.
1. Look up from the reading
2. Look up from the number of strokes
3. Look up by radical
If you don't know how to read a kanji, you can look it up by its stroke count or radical.
This is the first kanji dictionary for Japanese elementary school students, so the explanations use hiragana and pictures to make it easy to understand.
There are also kanji dictionaries for adults that accommodate a large number of kanji.
A æŧĸå Kanwa dictionary is a dictionary that contains more detailed explanations of Kanji characters.
