We love Japanese dumplings (gyouza).

There are many kinds of gyoza in the world, but in Japan, gyoza means pan-fried dumplings.

Pan-fried dumplings
=焼き餃子(yaki-gyouza)

Japanese dumplings has a lot of garlic in it.
I think there are few Japanese people who don't like gyoza. At least, there are none around me.
The charm of Japanese gyoza is that it contains lots of garlic, chives and other savory vegetables!
The thin and crispy skin is also another characteristic of Japanese gyoza.
That's delicious, but be careful of the smell from your mouth the next day.

So many people in jobs where they meet people and women refrain from eating them. I used to eat gyoza only on Fridays or Saturdays.
But lately I have been eating them anytime I want.

Why?

It's because we all wear masks and they don't smell.😁

Dumplings bought at the supermarket
Bake-only frozen dumplings are a busy person's best friend!
I looked up what kind of dumplings we could buy at the supermarket.
The left side of the photo is from Utsunomiya(宇都宮)  City, Tochigi Prefecture, famous for its gyoza.
This is a slightly smaller dumpling.
It contains a lot of gyoza and the price is reasonable, about 200 yen.
These are the gyoza of Ippudo, a ramen restaurant that has expanded overseas. The price is high, about 500 yen!

Convenience is the key to frozen dumplings.
Frozen dumplings are convenient because they have a long shelf life.
In addition, the ones that are designed to cut corners are the latest craze.👍

It says that you don't need to add water or cover it with a lid.
On the right side of the picture 羽根つき餃子Feathered Gyoza means gyoza with crisp, fragrant fried flour "feathers.

Oh, I can't wait to have some dumplings and beer!🍻

A famous gyoza shop in Kyoto, Ohsho.
The most famous gyoza restaurant in Kyoto is Ohsho. Takeaways are also popular, and you can buy them before they are cooked.

I've been looking into it and now I want to eat it!😂

Making dumplings at home
Making dumplings at home is a lot of work, but it is also a lot of fun. I guess you could say it's an event.
It is fun to make gyoza skins by hand, and the homemade skins are glutinous and delicious.
However, it is difficult to make the crust thin, so it is common to buy the crust from the supermarket.
Next time I have a chance to make homemade dumplings, I'll write a post about it.

Imagining the personality of the person who wrote the handwriting

Have you ever looked at a character and imagined the personality of the person who wrote it? With the spread of computers and smart phones, we have fewer opportunities to see handwritten characters, but the topic of handwriting and personality does come up once in a while in Japan. When I see the characters with stretchy strokes that protrude from the frame, I hear that they seem to have an open mind. On the other hand, when I see small, evenly spaced letters, I think that the person must be very meticulous. Historical Background This may have something to do with the history of Japan. Let me tell you a story from the Heian period(794-1185). Only the nobility can still read and write. In addition, the Heian period was a time when beautiful things were loved, and intelligence and culture were also signs of wealth for both men and women. Noblewomen do not show their faces in public. In order to meet a woman they are interested in, men first send her a love letter. At this stage, the man ...

If you replace your name in Japanese ranking.

Is your name on the ranking? A friend of mine played a game in which you have to replace the names on the ranking with the names of the same period and the same rank. The fifth most common girl's name in the USA is For example, the name 'Sophia' is the fifth most common name in the USA. The name 'Sophia', for example, is the fifth most common name in the United States and is associated with nobility in Japan, perhaps due to the influence of anime. Reference : https://www.babynamestats.com/top100.html Japanese names for the same rank. Transpose that to the Japanese name rankings and I get the name Tsumugi. The name Tsumigi means thread or fabric. The name sounds very pretty. Reference : https://st.benesse.ne.jp/ninshin/name/girl/name-ranking/ In Japan, it is the trend of the names after nature. And most of them are difficult to read, since their kanjis are many way to read. However it is cute. It seems to be the same all over the world that th...
